Rocky Horror at the Movie Tavern tonight at midnight. I'm interested in going, anyone else up for it? Dave, Pika, I'm looking at you...LMK, and I'll swing by and get tickets in advance this time. I also have some "ideas" for "things to entertain myself with". Or barring that, I'll bring my laptop and play WoW during the show.

    Two Months Away
Hey, so They Might Be Giants (the best band ever, and anyone who disagrees is getting kicked in the reproductive organs) is playing a show on my birthday (March 4th, bitches) at the House of Blues in Dallas. I'm going, Alex is going, and anyone else who wants to go should feel free to go, and either meet us there or arrange a ride/caravan from Denton. Balcony seating looks nice, but I'm opting for the easier and more intimate settings of the floor, which leaves more room for arm waving and lines of a conga variety. SRO tickets are $22, plus the usual TicketBastard service charge. It'll be my 10th or 11th (because I have lost count) TMBG show, but the first one to be on my actual birthday. A large group of friends gives me a better opportunity to make sure the Johns (and the Dans) become aware of my birthday. Come one, come all, for Brooklyn's Ambassadors of Love are coming to Dallas!

    WTF?
Thanksgiving, I was recovering from surgery. Now this close to Christmas, I've had a cold/sinus thing for the last few days, and I've been spending all weekend on the couch blowing my nose and sneezing. All I know is, the Cowboys had either better win, or someone had better come over and give me a lap dance, or this will be the worst Christmas ever.

Why i Still Live In Denton: Reason #89
Ran into Casanova today in the cereal aisle at Kroger. We spent about half an hour standing there and catching up with anything we'd heard about former Brucelings and what they've been up to.

Well, that was almost anticlimactic. I got a little overwhelmed at the beginning, where a team of nurses swarmed me while I was only wearing one of those "one size fits none and makes everyone look stupid" gowns and my blood pressure went a little crazy. Afterwards, they stuck an IV in me, knocked me out, and an hour or so later, I was coming to with some crazy throat pain action. I did the mandatory self exam (two arms, two legs, etc), then staggered out of there another hour later. Now I'm staying with my dad in Richardson for the weekend, since I'm pretty sure Alex doesn't want to be my nurse for the next 72 hours (although I did buy him the outfit). I;m not looking forward to the liquid diet, although even water is like a thousand burning suns in my throat right now. Still, in a month this will turn out to be the best decision I ever made. For now though, just pain (until the drugs really start to kick in).

Get out the melon baller and the ether...
Well, I'm about 40 minutes from when I'm scheduled to arrive at the hospital, and an hour and 40 minutes until I should be out and under the knife. Getting my tonsils out (finally), and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Still, it's not a complicated procedure by any stretch of the imagination, so I should be enjoying a nice lukewarm bowl of chicken broth before too long. I wonder if they'll let me keep the tonsils afterwards...I could have them bronzed and turned into cuff links. Anyway, I'll post again once I'm awake enough to do so. Just wanted to let you guys know what's up. Go Mavs!

    Regarding the Writers Strike
I seriously wish I lived within driving distance of LA or NY, as I'd really like to join the WGA on their picket lines right now. The more I read about how the writers (whose ranks I'd like to someday join) have been getting screwed over by the AMPTP, the more I want to do something. As it stands now, the only thing I can do is support the writers (and by default, actors and directors, since their union contracts are up next year), and boycott the flood of shitty reality TV that will be flooding the airwaves once the current stockpile of scripts dries up.

Oh yeah, and read books. Books defeat producers, don't you know.

If anyone wants to play hooky from work, I'm headed to the Movie Tavern at 11 this morning to catch the UNT/Memphis game. Possibly your only chance to drink before noon and have a reason for it!

    Quick hits
Had a great time in Houston, nerding it up. Got to see Mom and my little brother, who isn't that little anymore and is doing a really good job of making something of himself. Now I have to get on the ball and get college knocked out so I can get out from under that.

Oh yeah, Sunday was my 30th birthday, you may begin showering me with love...now.

Feels weird to be this old, it's not like there's any physical difference (although I do feel like crap tonight...Mountain Dew is not a substitute for sleep), but the big 0 at the end of my age definitely has a tangible feeling to it.

In yet another attempt to expand my nerd kingdom, I started playing World of Warcraft this weekend. Now, I'm only doing the ten day free trial for now, it doesn't run fast enough on my system for me to bother paying the monthly fee. However, I could definitely see myself picking it up "full time" sometime in 2007. Plus, I've started playing the WoW TCG, so it's nice to see where all the cards and such came from.
